October Wine Notes

October Wine Notes

Harvest season is officially underway, and the vineyard is alive with energy as grapes are being hand-picked from the rolling hills of Leelanau. The first touches of fall color are beginning to pop across the peninsula, making this truly the best time of year to visit Northern Michigan. We expect “Peak Colors” to be in the middle of October.

Settle in with a glass of our signature Hot Harvest Cider, the perfect companion for crisp afternoons; or, if Mother Nature graces us with a warm, sunny day, cool down with our refreshing Sangria Slushie. Whether you come for the flavors, the colors, or the breathtaking views, fall at Rove is a season you won’t want to miss.

If you are booking your Fall wine and color tour and you have a group larger than 6, we do request a reservation just to ensure we can give you the best experience possible.

Wine of the Month

2022 Reserve Chardonnay: This fruit-forward Chardonnay strikes a beautiful balance between elegance and vibrancy. Aged for 10 months in a thoughtful combination of acacia and French oak, it shows a delicate toasty nuance that enhances rather than overpowers the fresh orchard fruit at its core. Notes of ripe pear, golden apple, and hints of citrus are lifted by subtle floral tones, while the gentle oak aging lends a soft roundness and refined complexity to the palate. The finish is clean, layered, and gracefully persistent.

Here are some fall-inspired pairings that would complement your 2022 Reserve Chardonnay beautifully:

  • Roast chicken with herbs & root vegetables – the fruit and subtle toast highlight savory roasted flavors.
  • Butternut squash risotto – the wine’s brightness cuts through the creaminess while echoing fall’s earthy sweetness.
  • Seared scallops with brown butter & sage – delicate oak and citrus notes play perfectly with rich, nutty flavors.
  • Apple and brie tart – mirrors the orchard fruit tones in the wine while adding a cozy autumn flair.
  • Pork tenderloin with apple compote – balances the savory richness with the Chardonnay’s crisp finish.
