2022 Pinot Grigio: A Vintage of Vibrance and Depth

2022 Pinot Grigio: A Vintage of Vibrance and Depth

At first glance, Pinot Grigio might seem familiar, but look closer, and you'll uncover its fascinating secret—this beloved white wine is actually a mutation of Pinot Noir. Its grapes, shifting in color from grayish-blue to pinkish-brown, reflect the ever-changing character of the wine itself.

Each vintage tells a unique story, and our 2022 Pinot Grigio captures the essence of the season with elegance and energy. Opening with soft notes of honeydew melon and orange zest, it evolves into a refreshing yet layered expression, finishing with crushed gravel, zesty clementine, and juicy white peach. Crisp and dry, yet brimming with complexity, this wine is as at home on a sunlit patio as it is beside a beautifully arranged charcuterie board.

At Rove Winery, our approach to Pinot Grigio is guided by the land, the fruit, and the experience we wish to share. Some years, we embrace a lively, refreshing style; others, we lean into a richer, more textured Pinot Gris expression. The 2022 vintage walks the perfect line between the two—balancing brightness with depth, making it an ideal pairing for a peppery arugula salad topped with goat cheese and candied orange peel.

Whether sipped under golden afternoon light or savored with a leisurely meal, the 2022 Pinot Grigio invites you to slow down, take in the moment, and discover the beauty in every glass.

  • Interesting Fact: Pinot Grigio is actually a mutation of Pinot Noir! The grape’s skin color varies from grayish-blue to pinkish-brown, which is why it’s called Grigio (Italian for "gray"). Despite being widely known for its crisp, light-bodied Italian style, in France—where it’s called Pinot Gris—it often produces richer, more complex wines with a slightly oily texture.
  • Message: Each year, our Pinot Grigio/Pinot Gris reflects the story of the vintage and our winemaking vision. Some years, we craft a crisp, refreshing Pinot Grigio, bright and lively, the perfect companion for soaking in the beauty of our patio and breathtaking views. Other years, we lean into a richer, more textured Pinot Gris, offering depth and complexity that pairs beautifully with our artisanal charcuterie boards. Whether light and vibrant or bold and expressive, our approach is always guided by the fruit, the land, and the experience we want to share with you.
