Interesting Fact: Riesling is one of the most terroir-expressive grapes in the world, so much so that it was once used to map soil types in Germany. Because it so clearly reflects the place it's grown, from slate to limestone to sandstone, winemakers and geologists have historically studied how Riesling changes based on soil composition. It’s like a liquid fingerprint of the land, capturing subtle shifts in geology more vividly than almost any other variety.
