Interesting Fact: Despite its smooth reputation, Merlot is one of the most widely misunderstood grapes. For years, it was overshadowed by trendier varietals, but in reality, Merlot is the foundation of some of the world’s most legendary wines, including the Right Bank wines of Bordeaux like Château Pétrus. Its balance of plush fruit, structure, and ageability proves that Merlot isn’t just approachable, it can be absolutely profound.
At Rove: Merlot has a natural affinity for clay-rich soils, something we’re fortunate to have on select sites at Rove Winery. Clay retains moisture and moderates vine growth, allowing Merlot to ripen slowly and evenly, which deepens its flavor and softens its tannins.
